Phoenix court reporting firm Herder and Associates and Chandler Horizon Rotary Give Back in Charity Golf Tournament Fundraiser

Marty Herder, President of Phoenix Court Reporting Agency Herder and Associates, is sponsoring the 25th Annual Chandler Horizon Rotary Hole-in-One contest. Over the years the event has raised more than $650,000 to help charities including the Chandler Gilbert YMCA, Desert Cancer Foundation, and Pregnancy Care Center, to name a few.

In addition to the charity golf tournament, Herder and his Rotarians are involved in rebuilding the Houston home of a single mother whose home was devastated by the hurricane.

?Giving back is an important part of the mission of Herder and Associates and for the Chandler Horizon Rotary. Our motto at the Rotary is, ?Service above self,? and I agree with that sentiment. In a world that is filled with stress and terrible news, it?s refreshing to focus on improving our community by giving back. Whether it?s time or money, every little bit we can do helps whether it?s rebuilding a Houston home or sponsoring a golf tournament to benefit charity,? says Marty Herder.

The $100,000 Shoot Out will take place February 17, 2018 beginning at 10am at the San Marcos Golf Resort in Chandler, Arizona. 100% of funds received from golfers and sponsors at this all-volunteer event will support charities in Chandler and surrounding Phoenix area communities.

Herder and his fellow Rotarians wouldn?t be able to pull off such a big event without help from volunteers and sponsors. Learn more about the golf tournament on the Rotary HIO website www.rotaryhio.org.

Phoenix Court Reporting Firm Herder and Associates Offers Advice to First-Time Deponents

PHOENIX, AZ (PRWEB)?NOVEMBER 18, 2017

Phoenix court reporting firm Herder and Associates offers advice to first-time deponents.

As a first-time deponent, the process can be quite intimidating. Marty Herder, President of Herder and Associates with 37 years of experience, offers advice to these deponents and the counsel that calls them. Begin by making the deponent feel comfortable and explain why they have been called making it important to contact them prior to deposition date so they understand what is happening at the deposition.

Herder says, ?While someone like me has worked on thousands of depositions, we have to remember there are people who have never experienced this. First-time deponents are often nervous and unsure of what to expect. Assure them they are there to provide testimony related to a specific event. Answer truthfully and to the best of your knowledge.?

Deponents often have a tendency to speak softly or ramble in their answers which can be challenging for even the most experienced court reporters.

Herder offers, ?Let the witness know they only answer what they are asked. If the question is if they know about the incident, the appropriate answer is simply yes or no. Don?t go on to tell the story until asked. The attorney likely has a strategy.?

A deposition is part of the discovery phase of a case. While cases go to court, many are settled based on what is found out during this phase making it critical for all deponents to tell what they know to the best of their knowledge.

Herder & Associates Founder Recognized at Final Meeting of the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission

Arizona-based Marty Herder, founder of the court reporting firm Herder & Associates, was recently recognized at the final meeting of the AIRC.

The AIRC was created when voters approved Proposition 106 which amended the Arizona Constitution to create a bipartisan commission independent of the state legislature that would be tasked with redrawing congressional and legislative lines following the decennial census, and was mandated to be in compliance with the U.S. Constitution and the Voting Rights Act.

Along with the Commission, its counsel, and the AIRC administrative staff, covering each twist and turn of this historic process was Marty Herder, a certified professional court reporter and owner of Herder & Associates.?? Herder is a past president of the Arizona Court Reporters Association and long-time member of the award-winning Chandler Horizon Rotary Club.

The AIRC for the 2011-2020 cycle started administrative meetings in March 2011. It has held 58 business meetings and 43 public hearings in locations in every corner of the state, for a total of over 359 hours.

The media and thousands were in attendance at these public meetings, and 2,350 speaking requests from the public were granted. Mr. Herder, President of Herder & Associates Court Reporters, headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, diligently reported over 10,000 pages of verbatim transcripts of each meeting, which often times included contentious issues and public protest matters. The commission streamed almost every meeting to the Internet, with the eyes of the country watching.

At the final meeting on April 28, 2017, everyone shared a personal thank-you and goodbye. AIRC Commission Chairwoman Colleen Mathis kindly presented Mr. Herder a Commission Medal of Freedom, sharing ?I also want to recognize Marty Herder, who also is going to be receiving one of these Commission Medal of Freedom medals. He?s a really great guy. On the back of his medal, I put, ?Always ready.??

Herder was recognized for being dedicated to the Commission and the process 24/7 and remaining at the ready for each meeting of the Commission.

After being presented with his award, Herder responded, ?If we are lucky in life, once or twice in our career we are blessed with a moment, a moment feeling a part of something far, far bigger than anything we ever imagined, while surrounded by passionate, bright and engaging new characters and new friends. AIRC has been that moment for me.?

At personal risk of being the target of attack, I respectfully address court reporting leadership’s campaign of sending out a woefully outdated 16-year-old Advisory Opinion on court reporters who video record Zoom depositions. I first wrote about this issue in Court Reporting and Technology. First, let’s recall that this is a pre-Zoom, pre-pandemic, 2006 outdated […]

If the Covid-19 era has taught court reporters anything, it is that technology changes fast and we need to adapt quickly. Rather than traveling to in-person depositions, we were thrust into the world of video depositions. After all, lawsuits were still happening and courts were operating, even if in a lesser capacity. Lockdowns had us […]

Automated Speech Recognition (ASR) isn’t new, but now your record is in peril with its use.  Additionally, ASR companies (digital reporters) are not bound to the state and federal guidelines, skills, and code that stenographic court reporters are.  The myriad of pitfalls with digital reporting includes not only accuracy, but also reliability, unauthorized disclosure/dissemination of […]

Currently, there […]
